CHAMBER UPDATE - MAY 2020

Welcome
Welcome to our newest member, The Creemore Coffee Company!

Business Awards & AGM
The final decision on the Business Awards has been to cancel it altogether this year.
The AGM will now take place over Zoom next month on Wednesday, June 24th at 6:30 pm. Please register your attendance at clearviewchamber@gmail.com to be sent the Zoom link.

Interim Director
Welcome to Cayleigh Jago as Interim Director. Cayleigh is filling in for Craig Raffan’s vacated position until the upcoming AGM. Thank you for joining the Executive Board Cayleigh!  This position will be voted upon again at the June 24th AGM for a 2-year replacement to complete the remainder of this term.

New Executive Positions
A reminder that the below Executive positions are needing to be filled at the AGM on June 24th;
  • Treasurer – 2-Year term, to replace Ramona Holm who has served two consecutive terms
  • 3-Year Director – To replace Troy Disabato
  • 2-Year Director – To fulfill the remaining tenure of Craig Raffan’s vacated position of 3-Year Director
Clearview Township Update
• All non-essential staff have been temporarily laid off
• No new staff will be hired (no summer students)
• Tourism Centre will remain closed for the summer
• No parks or public facilities will be open
• All Markets are canceled

Flower Baskets
Due to the skeleton staff at the Township and no hiring of summer students, the Chamber has no help to water the flowers in the summer. There is also no Township staff available to put up the new post-style flower baskets that the Township purchased for downtown Stayner. We are now looking at alternate ideas to make our downtown look ‘open’ for the coming months.

Joint Business Stakeholders Meeting
Clearview Township, the Creemore BIA, and the Clearview Chamber of Commerce held our very first Joint Business Stakeholders Meeting at the beginning of May. Out of this meeting came the below updates as well as the Clearview Business Re-opening Tool Kit which you have already been sent information on.
  • Simcoe Country Tourism is promoting businesses that are open. As they have the staff to work on this large-scale project, Clearview Township is promoting our local businesses by sharing those Clearview businesses highlighted on their Facebook page. Please visit the Simcoe Country website https://experience.simcoe.ca/ for more information, or to add your business to their page.
  • The Discover Clearview Events calendar has been switched to promote upcoming Zoom meetings and workshops
  • The Township will be launching Discover Clearview on Instagram
  • The Township will be launching a Discover Clearview At Home campaign
  • Radio Campaign will be taking place from May 19 – June 13. It will be a 2-step campaign by the Township, Creemore BIA, and the Clearview Chamber. The two ads are:
  1. Thank you to the customers and the public for shopping locally when required
  2. Info on the new landscape of shopping in Clearview stores when they re-open
In the Joint Business Stakeholder Meeting, the Creemore BIA specifically requested three major items.
  1. A unified message, using signage, about the new requirements of shopping in our stores. They felt that unified signage throughout Clearview’s stores would help to ease the tension between store owners and consumers for the new shopping experience.
  2. A general template for a business re-opening model so our members wouldn’t have to ‘re-invent the wheel’ so to speak when the re-open occurs.
  3. Help sourcing PPE for their members.
Out of these specific conversations came the Clearview Business Re-opening Tool Kit!

Clearview Business Re-opening Tool Kit: You can find the Tool Kit information online here: https://www.discoverclearview.ca/discover-clearview/shopping-districts or in the e-mail that was sent to you on Saturday, May 16th. The kit provides consistent messaging and guidelines for businesses including posters on the new shopping experience along with sources for PPE and more. There will be 100 kits available to our joint members and distribution will be coordinated by Amanda Murray, from Clearview Township. A very special thank you to Amanda Murray for pulling this very comprehensive tool kit together in less than 2 weeks!

Canada Day
Canada Day is going virtual this year. The Executive has decided to cancel the live Canada Day event and instead will be going virtual. The plan is to contact the Stayner Heritage Society, The Lions Club, The Kinsmen Club, the Creemore BIA, and the Township to share the same message; Dress up, decorate the outside of your house, decorate your business window, decorate your car, dress up your pets, or do whatever else you feel is in the spirit of Canada Day, then go for a socially distanced walk, drive, run or bike around your nieghbourhood. Wave to your friends, take photos to share on social media, and post them with the event hashtag (TBD). Confirmation of these details will come soon.

Chamber Decals
Everyone should be receiving their Chamber Decals soon! They have been delivered to Rachael Broderick and she is in the process of mailing them out. Thank you, Rachael!

Hand Sanitizer
The Clearview Chamber has a contact for a local hand sanitizer company out of Collingwood. They have sanitizer in 2 and 4 oz bottles that contain 70% isopropyl alcohol, with lavender and tea tree oil. We also have the contact for a company out of London, ON that is selling 1L bottles in cases of 24.  Please contact us at clearviewchamber@gmail.com for information if interested. There is also a different hand sanitizer supplier listed in the Tool Kit.

Stayner Signage
The Chamber will be writing a letter of request to Clearview Township for a sign to be placed on Airport Rd. & Hwy 26 that indicates the direction of Stayner’s Historic Downtown.

Condolences
Our deepest condolences to Jean Warden’s family. Jean, the original owner of Jean & Dianne’s Barber Shop, and a member of our Chamber passed away on May 8th. Flowers were sent to her family on behalf of the Chamber.

Stay safe everyone and we’ll ‘see’ you on June 24th at the AGM!
