CANADIAN CHAMBER POLICY RESOLUTIONS DUE JUNE 30
- If you are planning to participate in the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s policy resolution process for 2020, the deadline to submit a resolution is June 30. You can submit a resolution here, or consult the guide for further details.

JOIN THE ONTARIO CAUCUS ADVISORY COUNCIL
- Want to support your fellow chambers in the 2020 Canadian Chamber of Commerce policy resolution process? Interested in discussing and debating the proposed resolutions? Join the Ontario Caucus Advisory Council, a group that meets regularly throughout the summer to review proposed resolutions, suggest amendments, and guide Ontario chambers’ votes.

KEY UPDATES
|
|
- The government of Ontario has extended the declaration of emergency to June 30. Further details on stage 2 of re-opening are expected next week.
- Today, the Prime Minister announced that the federal government will pay a one-time tax-free payment of up to $600 for Canadians with disabilities to help cover the cost of unexpected bills due to the pandemic. This new financial aid will go to all who are eligible for the Disability Tax Credit, as of June 1.
- On June 4, Premier Ford confirmed the province is close to lifting the current restriction on short-term rentals in Ontario — just in time for the summer season. More details to come.

Top-up payments of $300 to Old Age Security and $200 to the Guaranteed Income Supplement will begin to be issued the week of July 6. This is part of the series of measures back in April to support seniors. Learn more.
- On June 4, the Ontario government appointed Dr. Jane Philpott as the special advisor to support the design and implementation of the new Ontario Health Data Platform (formerly known as PANTHR).

Ontario Business Stands in Solidarity Against Racism and Discrimination in all its Forms
|
|
On June 1, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce released the following statement:
“We stand with the black community in solidarity against racism and discrimination in all its forms. We all have an obligation to call out, stand-up, and raise our voices against racism, injustice and discrimination of all types.
“We call on Ontario’s employers and employees to show leadership in their communities to end discrimination in all of its forms and ensure that everyone’s rights are respected – no matter their race, ethnicity, or national origin. We have a collective responsibility to create progress toward a just and equal future.”

Premier's Council on Equality of Opportunity
|
|
On June 4, the Ontario government announced the Premier's Council on Equality of Opportunity, a new advisory group that will provide advice on how young people can overcome social and economic barriers and achieve success.
The council will also advise the government on long-term actions that can be taken to support youth during the COVID-19 outbreak. The Premier also announced an investment of $1.5 million for organizations that are supporting Black families and youth recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

MEET THE OCC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

|
On April 24, we hosted our first ever virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) with our chambers of commerce and boards of trade from across the province. At the AGM, we welcomed new Board Members and thanked our retiring Board Members.
We are excited to officially welcome Murad Bhimani, Partner, MNP LLP, as the new OCC Board Chair. The Board would like to thank our now Past Chair, Kim Warburton, VP Corporate & Public Affairs, TD Bank Group, for her contributions and guidance over the past year.
Thank you to our retired Past Chair, John Capobianco, SVP & Senior Partner, National Public Affairs Lead, FleishmanHillard Highroad, for his contributions through the years. We extend our sincere appreciation to all retiring OCC Board Members.
We welcomed newly elected Board Members to the Ontario Chamber Network family. We are also grateful to continue our work with our returning Board Members.
