The Chamber Executive had an emergency meeting last night to discuss the current state of our Executive Board, and we felt the need to advise everyone on the very serious issue that the Chamber is currently facing.
We are now one week away from the Annual General Meeting where we are to vote in many positions on our Board. The resignation of our President this week was completely unexpected, so we now have another major role that needs to be filled in a very short period of time. Of the 5 positions open (President, Treasurer, Secretary, Director 3-yr & Director 2-yr), only the two Director positions are lined up to be filled. We have not been successful in finding a candidate for the Treasurer position, although we are still working on it, and no one has shown interest in the Secretary position since it became vacant last year. And now, the role of President is up as well.
For the majority of this past year, Kat Salvador has been acting as both Vice President and Secretary and has expressed that she will continue to do so if a Secretary is not found. Normally, the Vice President will step into the President’s role when required but unfortunately, Kat is not in the position of taking on the Presidency. She has also strongly expressed that she is not the right person for this position.
Here is where we currently stand, if nobody in the membership is interested in filling the major positions of President and Treasurer, there is the very real and unfortunate possibility that the Chamber will be disbanded. We are currently trying to set-up a market in Stayner for the summer, however, it cannot move forward if we have nobody to work on it and no people to volunteer to help each week. The Chamber needs your involvement and help. Without it, we will fade away.
We have one week. If we cannot find a President AND a Treasurer, we are in trouble. Monthly General Board meetings will once again resume in July and will continue throughout the summer if we are still here.
