DIGITAL MAIN STREET // 2021 SMALL BUSINESS TRENDS AND PREDICTIONS
Not even the most advanced AI-powered statistical modeling could predict the future with 100% certainty. But for small businesses and sole entrepreneurs who usually have more constrained resources, the future isn’t about predicting. It’s about preparing. It’s about minimizing the impact of events that could throw a wrench in operations. It’s about navigating events that could force a business to adapt in unreasonable amounts of time, losing the edge over a competitor. Such events are often referred to as “black swans.” We have all experienced a black swan with the onset of a worldwide pandemic.
Recognizing and capitalizing on upcoming trends is key for long-term viability. It also allows entrepreneurs, side-hustlers, and small businesses to scale quickly and compete more successfully against bigger players. As a small business owner, you can pivot and use these shifts in the business landscape to your advantage. |

It’s important to keep an eye on the costs of running your business, especially as they change. With the new year coming up, you can expect some changes to your shipping costs, which may factor into both your shipping strategy and pricing strategy for 2021.
Every year, shipping carriers review their pricing and make adjustments to their rates due to increased costs like fuel and labor. These updates are normally implemented every year in January, so now’s the time to prepare for upcoming rate changes.
Here’s an overview of the rate increases coming in 2021 to help you optimize your shipping and fulfillment strategy in light of these changes. |

Twin brothers Colton and Asa Proveau had dreamed of opening their own microbrewery since their senior year in high school. After four years, in 2014, Brothers Brewing Company was born. Some years later in 2017, with the addition of Michael Bevan to the team, they opened their brick-and-mortar location in downtown Guelph, ON.
Like many small businesses, they put off e-commerce due to lack of time and digital experience, until they discovered the ShopHERE Powered By Google Program. Thanks to this partnership, Brothers Brewing Company can now sell their beer beyond their store’s physical location in Guelph and into the rest of the province. Their merchandise can also extend far beyond this, and go to the world at large. |
